And it’s on sale till Jan 7 at Best Buy canada for $1800 ish CAD. Pro’s: great screen, keyboard, trackpad, connectivity, wifi6, thunderbolt, power delivery, upgradable but comes with a nice Samsung SSD and 16 GB ram. It’s heavier than a smaller battery ryzen machine but it sits on the coffee table most of the time.
The cons: no numpad (pro for us, we hated the cramped keyboard and this is great), 6 core instead of 8 for the multi tasking but realistically day to day we don’t notice a difference. The 240 hz edition It covers 95% of sRGB and it’s noticeable.

Finally the screen is 1080p in 15 inches which is great for that pixel density. You’d be surprised how annoying a cheap keyboard and trackpad become over the years. The trackpad is glass and fantastic for those days without a mouse and the keyboard is one of the best we found in store to type on other than the apple ones. The rest is a well put together balanced package, the thunderbolt port also supports power delivery for travel charging convenience, there is another 10Gbit USB port along with 2 more 5Gbit ports and an extra HDMI port. The slight intel advantage (at least for a few months) is it comes with thunderbolt 3 so in a few years when the 1TB ssd is getting fuller and external drives are becoming cheaper it becomes a very fast alternative.

Although I’d prefer a newer Ryzen, the 10th Gen intel 10750h renders in premiere pro magnitudes faster over my older fatter 4 core liquid cooled desktop and we’ve had no issues with it. The extra cost won’t seem as much over 3-5 years. We ran into a similar situation and ended up upping our budget since laptops aren’t as upgradable, over the life time of the device you’ll get more out of it. Unless you go used, these two things are pretty difficult to achieve together. This sounds like you want to a hit a lot of bells without the cost of it. Brand name is important to me, I think - my head says that brands matter when it comes to electronics, though I don’t have anyone in mind. I’d also love it if the company provides long-term support/service (eh ehm, Apple). Probably goes without saying, but I’d like the laptop to last a long time. I suppose I’ll have to up my budget, but certainly can’t go above $1K. Initially I was hoping to spend around $600, but it looks like I might not find anything from a reputable seller for that. Due to the previous sentence, my budget is low. I am currently unemployed and am hoping to find some type of remote work, so this laptop needs to work for that, too. I’d like a good screen (remember, photography).
Storage size isn’t super important, as I use external hard drives. They recommend at least 16 GB ram and a processor speed of at least 2 GHz. My main use for the laptop will be photo editing with Lightroom. I don’t know much about computers so am looking to the reddit community for help!

I’m breaking up with Apple so am in search of a Windows setup - specifically a traditional, folding laptop.
